The Jeffery Middlemiss "Stop the Silence" 3 on 3 Basketball Tournament was held at the North Andover Youth Center on Saturday, September 17, 2016. The tournament, which raises awareness about substance abuse, is organized annually by the Middlemiss family in memory of their son and brother who died from a heroin overdose in 2009. Jillian Middlemiss is a MHS physical education teacher and varsity girls basketball coach, and Ryan Middlemiss is the MHS junior varsity boys basketball coach. Both are MHS alumni and were outstanding athletes. It was special to see so many Methuen High School students and alumni participating in the event.
Ryan Middlemiss urged the  audience to stop the silence, "I challenge you to be supportive when someone is struggling."

Dean Brouder, Methuen's drug and alcohol resource coordinator, spoke about the impact drugs have had on his family and the
need to keep fighting the battle against substance abuse.
