Methuen High School in partnership with the Merrimack Valley Credit Union presents the inaugural MHS Credit for Life Fair on Friday, April 13, 2018. Grade twelve students will participate in the fair, which will run from 7:30 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. in the Klimas Memorial Field House.

During the fair, students will be exposed to the real life situations of adults in their mid-twenties. To manage decisions based on a monthly fixed income of a chosen career, students will utilize a personalized digital spending plan. As students travel from booth to booth and engage in thoughtful conversation with community volunteers, they will experience the financial challenges that come with paying student loans, handling housing and transportation expenses, and accounting for clothing, food, exercise, and entertainment. While trying to pay down a credit card balance, students will need to determine how much to contribute to retirement and savings accounts. For financial support, students will consult with credit counseling specialists.

We are thrilled to provide our graduates with the impactful learning experience that comes with this simulation of managing a real life budget. Financial literacy is essential to future success. Our goal is for all students to acquire the financial knowledge and skills to make informed decisions throughout their lives.
