MCAS 2.0 - Testing Schedule (English & Spanish)

Dear Parents & Staff,
We are fast approaching MCAS 2.0 testing for the 2016-2017 school year.  As you all know, this is an extremely important test and it is vital that the students get a good night sleep, eat a healthy breakfast, are on time for school, and try as hard as they can.  If you have any questions, please contact the school at 9787229077.  Thank you.  

The following is the schedule for the spring MCAS 2.0 testing:

Grade 8:
  • ELA - Tuesday, April 4 & Wednesday, April 5
  • Math - Tuesday, May 9 & Wednesday, May 10
  • Science - Thursday, May 11 & Friday, May 12
Grades 5, 6, 7:
  • ELA - Tuesday, April 11, Wednesday, April 12 & 13 (Grade 5 ONLY)
  • Math -  Thursday, May 11 & Friday, May 12
  • Science (Grade 5 ONLY) - Tuesday, May 16 & Wednesday, May 17
Grade 4:
  • ELA - Tuesday, April 4, Wednesday, April 5 & Thursday, April 6
  • Math - Tuesday, May 9 & Wednesday, May 10
Grade 3:
  • ELA - Tuesday, April 11, Wednesday, April 12 & Thursday, April 13
  • Math - Thursday, May 11 & Friday, May 12
Please note: Grades 4 & 8 will be taking the ELA and Math tests on-line.

Dear Parents & Staff,
I hope you all were able to enjoy the February break and the great weather we had!  As we enter March, I would like to keep everyone updated on all the great things happening at the Marsh.  The students and staff are working extremely hard in the classroom and are preparing for the upcoming MCAS 2.0 Assessments.  We are also in the process of creating the MCAS 2.0 testing schedule for both the computer-based testing (grades 4 & 8) and the paper-based testing and once it is finalized, I will publish it for everyone.  There are also a lot of fun and educational activities that will be taking place in and out of the classroom.  I also want to remind everyone to watch for any school closings or delays that may occur in event of inclement weather.  As always, please feel free to contact the school if you have any questions.  Thank you for your constant support of the Marsh and our students.

A few important dates...
  • Tuesday, March 7: Kindergarten registration (will be held at the Central Administration building @ 10 Ditson Place) from 9:00-11:00 a.m., 12:00-2:00 p.m., and 6:00-8:00 p.m.  The snow date will be March 9.
  • Wednesday, March 8: Annual PTO-sponsored Read Across America event.
  • Thursday, March 9: Class pictures - more information will be sent home.
  • Wednesday, March 15: 
    • PTO meeting beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the auditorium.
    • District-wide SEPAC meeting from 7:00-9:00 p.m. in the Timony library.
  • Friday, March 24: 
    • Upper School Hoops for Heart fundraising kick-off.  This event will raise money for the American Heart Association.
    • Early release day due to Parent-Teacher Conferences (afternoon session only).  More information will be sent home as we approach the date.
I also want to congratulate the following students for being published in the Apple Sauce  literary magazine:
  • Tianna Alvarez, Keyara Aspell, Salma Boulal, Jacqueline Drapeau, Erin Forest, Ava Gillespie, Galanie Nolan, Thomas Regan, and Isabella Unni.

Estimados padres y personal, 
Espero que todos fueron capaces de disfrutar de las vacaciones de febrero y el gran tiempo que tuvimos! Al entrar en marzo, me gustaría mantener a todos actualizados en todas las grandes cosas que suceden en el pantano. Los estudiantes y el personal están trabajando muy duro en el aula y se están preparando para el próximo MCAS 2.0 Evaluaciones. También estamos en el proceso de creación del programa de pruebas del MCAS 2.0 tanto para el examen en computadora (grados 4 y 8) y el ensayo basado en papel y una vez que esté finalizado, lo publicaré para todo el mundo. También hay una gran cantidad de actividades divertidas y educativas que se llevarán a cabo dentro y fuera del aula. También quiero recordar a todos para observar cualquier cierre de las escuelas o retrasos que pudieran producirse en caso de mal tiempo. Como siempre, no dude en ponerse en contacto con la escuela si tiene alguna pregunta. Gracias por su constante apoyo de la Marsh y nuestros estudiantes.

  • Cerrado miércoles, Marzo 15: reunión de PTO a las 7:00 pm en el auditorio. reunión SEPAC en todo el distrito de 7: 00-9: 00 pm en la biblioteca Timony. 
  • Cerrado viernes, 24 de marzo: la escuela superior de los aros de recaudación de fondos del corazón del saque inicial. Este evento será recaudar dinero para la Asociación Americana del Corazón. día antes de la liberación por las conferencias de padres y maestros (sólo sesión de la tarde). Más información será enviada a casa cuando nos acercamos a la fecha.

A few important dates...
  • Tuesday, February 7: District-wide MCAS 2.0 Parent meeting beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the Timony auditorium.  This meeting will be led by Superintendent Scannell & Assistant Superintendent Brandi Kwong.
  • Wednesday, February 8: PTO-sponsored Texas Roadhouse Night from 4:00-10:00 p.m. with a portion of the proceeds going to the Marsh.
  • Friday, February 10: Early release day due to staff professional development.
  • Friday, February 17: Dr. Ruth Potee will be hosting a parent meeting on addiction and the effects of drugs / alcohol on the adolescent brain.  The meeting will be held in the Methuen High School auditorium beginning at 7:00 p.m.
  • February 20 - 24: Schools will be closed due to Winter Break.
*Ski Club will be held every Monday (any questions, please contact Ms. Barbagallo) & Bowling Club will be held every Friday (any questions, please contact Ms. Gogas).

Dear Parents & Staff,
I hope you all had a the opportunity to relax and enjoy time with family and friends over the break.  It is hard to believe that it is officially 2017!  We are all excited to have the students and staff back and are looking forward to the second half of the school year.  As we continue through the winter season, the students and staff will be engaged in some great learning activities and also involved in many after school activities.  We will also be working very hard in preparation for the MCAS 2.0 tests.  I would also like to remind everyone that, in the event of inclement weather, all Boston TV and radio stations, WCCM, the Methuen Public Cable channel, and the MPS website will post school closings and delays.  As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school at 978-722-9077.  Thank you for your constant support of our students and school.

Below are a few important dates...
  • Monday, January 9: Ski Club begins.  Students will be brought back to the Marsh (via bus) between 6:30-6:45 p.m.  If you have any questions, please see Ms. Ann Barbagallo or Mr. Fernando Mancini.
  • Tuesday, January 10: PTO-sponsored Fisher Cat Reading Challenge Kickoff begins.  Students will have the opportunity to receive 2 free tickets to a Fisher Cats' baseball game for reading 5 books.  Official sign-ups will be sent home.
  • Friday, January 13: Early release due to staff professional development.  US will be dismissed at 11:15 a.m. & LS will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m.
  • Monday, January 16: NO SCHOOL due to Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
  • Wednesday, January 18: PTO meeting beginning at 7 p.m. in the auditorium.
  • Friday, January 20:
    • Bowling Club begins - if you have any questions, please see Ms. Donna Gogas.

Dear Parents & Staff,
It's hard to believe but the holiday season is upon us and winter weather is sure to be next.  With that said, I would like to keep everyone informed of all the great things happening at the Marsh, both in and out of the classroom.  The students and staff continue to work extremely hard and are doing a great job.  Our fifth grade recently had the opportunity to participate in the annual Wax Museum - we were glad that so many family and friends were able to take the time to visit and see the great work produced by our students!  As we continue through December, there are also many events that will take place - concerts, PTO events, and more.  This is a very busy time of year for everyone, but we hope you can come out and support these events and our students.  Lastly, with the possibility of inclement weather throughout the winter season, I just want to remind everyone that school cancellations / delays are announced on the major Boston TV and radio stations, WCCM, the Methuen School Channel (channel 99 for Comcast and channel 31 for Verizon), and will be posted on the MPS website.  As always, please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions.  I truly appreciate all your support for the Marsh and our students.  Thank you.

  • Thursday, December 8: Choral Concerts with grades 5 & 6 beginning at 6:00 p.m. and grades 7 & 8 beginning at approximately 7:00 p.m., both in the auditorium.
  • Friday, December 9: PTO-sponsored Holiday Store from 6:00-8:00 p.m.
  • Thursday, December 15: Early release day due to Parent-Teacher Conferences.  There will be afternoon and evening sessions - more information will be sent home as we get closer to the date.
  • Friday, December 16: Early release day due to Parent-Teacher Conferences.  There will only be afternoon sessions - more information will be sent home as we get closer to the date.
  • December 26-January 2: NO SCHOOL due to Winter Break.
  • Tuesday, January 3: Schools resumes.
*The annual Scholastic Book Fair will take place from Monday, December 12 through Friday, December 16.  Lower school students will be able to visit the Book Fair during their regularly scheduled Media Center time.  Upper school students will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair throughout the school day (teachers will schedule times for their students).  Parents are invited to attend on Thursday, December 15 during Parent-Teacher Conferences (6:00-8:00 p.m.).

Dear Parents & Staff,
It's hard to believe, but we are already heading into November and the school year is in full swing.  I would like to keep you updated on all the great things happening at the Marsh.  This past week, the upper school celebrated Red Ribbon Week which focuses on making healthy choices - there were a variety of educational activities and you can view some pictures from the week on the website.  We also had a school-wide PBIS assembly to celebrate our students and all the positive behaviors they have been displaying all year - with a visit from our very own Marsh Eagle!  The students and staff are working extremely hard and doing a great job in and out of the classroom.  November is a very busy month and we have some great events planned.  The district also has some great events planned such as the Methuen Santa Parade and the Festival of Trees.  As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school at 978-722-9077.  Thank you for your continued support of our school and students.  Thank you.

Dear Parents & Staff,
I hope you are all enjoying the Fall weather (and some much-needed rain).  With the school year in full swing, I'd like to keep everyone updated on all the wonderful things happening at the Marsh.  The students and staff are working extremely hard and doing a great job!  As you all know, MCAS results have been released and the staff will be analyzing the data in order to effectively meet the needs of each student.  Last Friday, the PBIS Team held lower and upper school assemblies to celebrate all the great choices our students have been making.  This was also a great way to continue to develop a strong sense of Marsh Pride!  In the upcoming weeks you will also receive your child's Trimester I progress report.  Lastly, our PTO will be hosting its first event of the year - Trunk or Treat - on Friday, October 14 from 6-8PM.  As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school at 978-722-9077.  Thank you for your continued support of the Marsh and our students.

Dear Parents & Staff,
The opening of the 2016-2017 went extremely well!  The students did a great job transitioning back to school and adjusting to their new schedules and classes and the teachers were eager to get started right from the start.  I want to thank everyone for attending our open houses - it was great to see so many parents and students and the teachers were thrilled to talk about all the great things that will be happening in their classrooms.  As we begin the school year, I just want to remind everyone of a few logistical items.  Upper school drop-off begins at 7:30 a.m. and lower school drop-off begins at 8:15 a.m.  We ask that everyone adheres to these times as it allows us to ensure there is proper supervision.  Also, please be patient with the buses as the drivers continue to get acclimated to the routes, etc.  We are all very excited about the school year and I will continue to keep everyone updated on all the great things happening here at the Marsh.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school anytime at 978-722-9077.  Thank you for your continued support of the Marsh and our students.

Opening of School

Dear Parents & Staff,
I hope you all had a wonderful summer and were able to spend time with family and friends.  As we approach the opening of school, I would like to keep everyone updated on all pertinent information.  The summer has been going very well here; Ms. Lamoureux, Mr. Marino, and the secretaries have been working extremely hard to insure that everything is ready for when the students arrive on August 30.  The custodial staff has also been working diligently to make sure the building looks great for the opening of the school year.  All the crosswalks throughout the city have been re-painted red to improve visibility and to insure the safety of all students.  Please take a few minutes to point out the crosswalks to your child as this is an effective safety precaution.  I would also ask that everyone is patient with the buses as the drivers get used to the routes, etc.  Lastly, I will again be sending home Sunday evening ConnectEd messages to keep everyone updated on all that is happening at the Marsh and throughout the district.  This information will also be posted on the Marsh website.  If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to call the school at 978-722-9077.  We are very excited to see the students and staff for the start of another exciting and successful school year.

Dear Parents & Staff,
I hope you are all having a wonderful summer and have been able to spend time with family and friends.  As we approach August, I would like to keep everyone updated on all pertinent "back to school" information.  The summer has been going very well here; Ms. Lamoureux, Mr. Marino, and the secretaries have been working extremely hard to insure that everything is ready for when the students arrive on August 30.  The custodial staff has also been working diligently to make sure the building looks great for the opening of the school year.  As you know, class lists & supply lists are posted at school (on the cafeteria windows) and the supply lists are also posted on the Marsh website.  As we approach the start of the year, please do not hesitate to contact the school if you have any questions.  I will also be sure to post all information on the website and will also send a ConnectEd message once we get closer to the opening of school.  We are all excited to see the students return and for another great year here at the Marsh.  As always, I appreciate all your support!  I hope you all enjoy the rest of the summer.
