Media Productions Curriculum Guide

AT801 MEDIA PRODUCTION 1 Level 1 .5 credit

DaveStudentFixEquip.jpg (14042 bytes)The aim of this course is the mastery of beginning portable production. Students will learn the operation of camcorders, other portable systems, special effects generator, mike mixer, and more. Working individually and in groups, students will also learn how to write scripts, prepare storyboards and conduct interviews. Productions will include commercials, interviews, skits, musical pieces and longer programs, with an opportunity to broadcast them on the Educational Channel TV-10.

AT811 MEDIA PRODUCTION 2  Level 1 .5 credit

This course is designed to allow students who have demonstrated expertise in basic media production skills to become familiar with the type of studio equipment that is available within the school system. Students will learn how to set-up and operate the equipment necessary for studio and remote video productions, how to effectively shoot such productions, and how to handle post-production work, including non-linear editing. Students will learn to develop a program concept (pre-production) and then nurture it through production, post-production, and eventual broadcast. Students will be expected to work with teachers and students from a variety of subject area disciplines.

AT821 ADVANCED MEDIA PRODUCTION Level 1 .5 credit

This course is designed to allow students who have acquired SpecEfectMat.jpg (22987 bytes)basic multi-media knowledge to strengthen their abilities to ask questions about what they see; to augment visual production skills with state-of-the-art technology likely to be encountered in the broadcast field; to provide for creative expression; to prepare for a media career, or improve media skills for any career path in the information age; to gain a deeper understanding of the language of visual communication and to promote media literacy. Students assist in the production of special television programs for our school and our school system, produce programs for outside clients, and are responsible for programming our local educational cable TV station. They are exposed to advanced production techniques, including non-linear editing, digital editing, standard and computer animation, presentation software, digital photography, multi-track audio recording, Web site design, and lighting.

Prerequisite: Successful Completion of Media  Production 2.
