Evaluating websites; is this a good one?
The Internet contains a wealth of information. HOWEVER, as you search for
information on your topic using your favorite search engine or subject directory
always do so with caution. A lot of the information on the Internet is
unreliable.
Use the following criteria to ensure that you are getting reliable information.
| ACCURACY - | Who is the author of the site and what are his/her qualifications? |
| AUTHORITY - | Who published the site? Is it an educational site (.edu); a government site (.gov); military site (.mil); commercial site (.com) etc. |
| OBJECTIVITY - | What is the purpose? To inform? To Persuade? Is the information bias or well balanced? |
| CURRENCY - | When was the site last updated? Is the information current? Are its links current and do they work? |
| COVERAGE - | Can the information on the site be viewed without special software? Is it free or do you have to pay? |
