Keep practicing the sight words each week.  It is a great idea to make flash cards at home! The more they practice the better readers they become!

Retelling a story:  

Ask your child:

• characters

• setting      

• main idea and details

• problem in story

• how was the problem solved?

• what might happen next

• beginning, middle, and end

 

  

 

Strategies to help decode unknown words:   

•  "chunk" out words (break into parts)

•  look at pictures

• skip a word and go back

• connect to a word you know

• blend sounds together
