ACADEMIC BOWL UPDATE

We are very excited to continue the Methuen Public Schools Academic Bowl in the 2017-2018 school year.  The Bowl was established  last year, bringing together students from the four grammar schools to learn, collaborate, and demonstrate their knowledge of a variety of subjects, including pop culture, Methuen history and subject areas to  compete in a Jeopardy-style format. Last year, almost 400 students participated in the competition. The goal of the our Academic Bowl is to provide more students with the opportunity to work with peers from other schools, be challenged and learn more about the world beyond their respective schools as they prepare for high school life.  In an effort to grow this program, we have made the following additions. The following schedule is a rough outline of the competition schedule, and is subject to change.

October: Individual schools host in-house competitions, with top teams from Grades 7 and 8 crowned school champions. These teams will compete against the other schools in district over the next few months..

November: Timony vs Tenney, CGS vs Marsh

December: CGS vs Tenney, Timony vs Marsh

January: CGS vs Timony, Tenney vs Marsh

March: The final competition will be held at Methuen High School.  Points will individually accumulate for both the 7th and 8th grade teams in each school.  The top scoring team from each school (either the 7th or the 8th grade team) will represent their school in the finals.  All points that have been accumulated over the head to head competitions will be zeroed out for the finals.  The team with the highest point total at the end of the final competition becomes the Methuen Academic Bowl Champion.
