Each entry is worth 4 points You may write a paragraph (handwritten or using MS Word) You may write a poem or song You may choose to create a drawing that is clearly labeled You may create a graphic organizer You may create a Power Point slide (must include animation, clip art and sound) Do you have a good idea? Student choice with teacher approval Please choose from the 3 menus below:
Appetizers: You may not choose more than 2 from this menu · What are your first impressions of the Engineering Class? Interview a classmate: get form from teacher · Do you like working with groups? If so, do you like to be a leader in a group? If not, why? What are the pros and cons of group work? · What is Engineering and what do Engineers do? · Why is there so much emphasis on Safety in the Engineering Lab? What kinds of courses would you need to take to pursue a career in Engineering? Explain the ways to use a hot glue gun properly to avoid injury. Have you built projects outside of class either with friends or family members? Describe.
Entrees: You may choose up to 4 from this menu What are the steps in the Engineering Design Process? Which ones are most important? When beginning to solve a design problem, why is it important to identify the need or the task? What is a prototype and what is its purpose? If you worked for Nike and designed a new prototype sneaker, how would you test and evaluate the prototype? What would you do with the information gathered?` Explain how you use a Smartboard. How can it enhance your presentation? What are the drawbacks to using a Smartboard during a presentation? How do we use symbols and icons to communicate? Are there symbols and icons that are universally recognized? Explain how the Internet gets to your computer? How do satellites contribute to modern communication? How have we come to rely on satellites for information? Give at least two examples. Do you know what people did before satellite technology? Compare at least two major changes. What are the 4 modes of transportation? Which ones might be used to transport lumber from a forest in Oregon to a paper mill in Maine? Name 5 transportation vehicles and list at least 3 of their subsystems. What are the 6 subsystems of all transportation vehicles? What are the four aerodynamic forces? How do Engineers design vehicles with these forces in mind? Describe the aerodynamic forces that act upon a glider or airplane. What is the difference between the two vehicles? Explain Bernouilli’s principle so that someone who knows nothing about flight can understand it. What is the USM? What does it stand for? What are the 5 parts? Describe how a cell phone is a system. Describe it by its 5 parts of the USM. Explain at least 4 departments in a manufacturing facility. How does each work to get the product to the consumer? Why do Engineers study bridges? Name 4 types of bridges and give one example of where each might be used? What are the forces that act on a structure? Define Describe your experience with hand tools. Have you used any prior to taking this class? Did you try something for the first time? Predict how you think your bridge will perform during destructive testing. Talk about your bridge after destructive testing….How efficient was it? What would you do differently if you had the opportunity to redesign?
